Cifelli, Richard. Textural Observations on Some Living Species of Planktonic Foraminifera. Smithsonian Contributions to Paleobiology, n u m b e r 45, 45 pages, 15 plates, 1982.—Wall textures of 11 species of spinose and quasi-spinose planktonic foraminifera collected in plankton tows from the Nor th and Equator ia l Atlantic have been studied with the scanning electron microscope. Il lustrations and descriptions of these textures are given herein. Dur ing the ontogeny of the individual the chamber wall thickens and the texture is modified in various forms. Thickening occurs by the addit ion of sheet-like laminat ions and clustering of crystallites that generally develop into ridges a m o n g the pores. Patterns of textural development vary among species, but there are some common trends. Planktonic Foraminifera Response to Sudden Global Warming in Late Maastrichtian, a Case Study from Ziyarat-Kola, Central Alborz, Iran

An abrupt global warming event has been recorded in many parts of the world in sediments of Latest Maastrichtian age between 65.45-65.10 Ma. This warm event was documented here at a section near Ziyarat-kola in Central Alborz based on analysis of planktonic foraminifera. An unusual abundance of normally large-size species such as Globotruncana arca, Globigerinelloides subcarinatus, Pseudoguembe...

Biostratigraphy of the Gurpi Formation in Sepidan section, Interior Fars basin based on planktonic foraminifera

In this study biostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous deposits (Gurpi Formation) in Sepidan section located in the Interior Fars basin (SW Iran) was studied. The Gurpi Formation in this section consists of 360 m lime shale, argillaceous limestone and shale laid continuously on the Ilam Formation and with a paraconformity under the Pabdeh Formation. Nine genera and 27 species of planktonic foram...

Foraminiferal biozonation and morphogroups from shale memberof the Aitamir Formation in Maraveh Tappeh section, northwest Koppeh-Dagh Basin

AbstractThe Aitamir Formation is divided into two members the lower sandstone and the upper shale. 32 genera and 57 species of foraminifera have been recognized. According to identified foraminifera Rotalipora appenninica Interval Zone, Rotalipora globotruncanoides (Rotalipora brotzeni) interval zone and Whiteinella aumalensis-Dicarinella canaliculata assemblage zone are proposed and a l Albian...

Biozonation, Paleobathymetry and paleoenvironmental study of the Gurpi Formation in southwestern Iran

Planktonic foraminifera and major palynomorph groups (i.e. terrestrial, marine, and amorphous organic matter) of the Campanian-Selandian strata of the Gurpi Formation were studied to evaluate the changes in the Zagros paleobasin in southwestern Iran. Planktonic foraminifera were categorized into four morphotypes according to their paleodepth, extending from Morphotype 1, comprising surface gene...

Investigating the paleoecological characteristics of Abtalkh Formation at Bahadorkhan Section (Central Kopet-Dagh) based on planktonic and benthic foraminifera

Study of a late Late Santonian to Late Campanian hemipelagic succession from Abtalkh Formation at the Bahadorkhan section (Central Kopet-Dagh) enabled us to verify paleoecology changes based on planktonic and benthic foraminifera assemblage. Bahadorkhan section is consisted of calcareous shale, lime marl, marl, and a few dispersed chalky limestone beds. Upper and lower boundaries of Abtalkh For...
